You need to get approval from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) if you plan to repaint your car. The approval is in line with Section (12) JPJ Act 1987 &#8211; inspection of motor vehicles and information to the Director-General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The application must be made within 7 days to prevent legal actions such as being fined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Guideline_to_change_car%E2%80%99s_colour\"><\/span>Guideline to change car&#8217;s colour<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The steps are very simple to follow, and there will be no fees imposed. JPJ usually does not issue a summons if you change the colour of your vehicle. In an untoward incident such as an accident or, theft, the new registered car&#8217;s colour will be valid to be used as a reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do not obtain JPJ&#8217;s approval, dispute during the claims process may arise due to the differences between the registration record and the car&#8217;s current condition after modification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Scenario: If your vehicle runs into an accident and the insurer finds that the colour of the car stated in the registration record is not the same as the vehicle&#8217;s current colour, the insurer may not bear the loss suffered by the owner.
