Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin confirmed that Malaysia and Thailand will only allow the tourists to cross their land border gates from April 1<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khairy said the border reopening needs to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs). This is to ensure the safety and health of both tourists and locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said for the moment, travel for daily commuters is still under discussion between the Malaysian and Thailand governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Thai government is only willing to accept leisure travellers only. Discussions are still underway between Malaysia and Thailand over daily commuters and frequent travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs for travellers from Thailand, the general travel protocol that Malaysia currently has in place would apply.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khairy said that only two land border gates would be opened starting April 1. These two gates are namely Bukit Kayu Hitam-Sadao and Wang Kelian-Wang Prachan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourists required to apply online for “Thailand Pass” sunder “Test & Go” programme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Previously, Deputy Governor of Songkhla province, Amphon Pongsuwan said all tourists who come through the land border gate under the \u201cTest & Go\u201d program<\/a> must apply online for the \u201cThailand Pass\u201d at least seven days before travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the “Test & Go\u201d programme, travellers also need to book a designated hotel in advance, as well as perform an RT-PCR test on the first day of arrival and a self-antigen test on the fifth day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that they will have to purchase medical insurance with a minimum coverage of US$20,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Tourists who enter Thailand through the Sadao entrance can bring private vehicles from Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These conditions are important because public health is our priority,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning April 1, Amphon said fully vaccinated international travellers do not need to take the Covid-19 test, 72 hours before travelling to Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the land border gate of Hatyai International Airport is also scheduled to receive international tourists from April 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
