Excessive, unnecessary and sudden braking means your car&#8217;s engine will consume more fuel when you need to accelerate again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you brake often and in short periods, your car will consume more fuel than it would when you maintain a good distance from the vehicle in front of you. This way, excessive braking can be reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Maintain_a_steady_speed\"><\/span>Maintain a steady speed<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your car engine burns more fuel at high speed to overcome wind resistance. It burns up more fuel as your speed level increases. In this fashion, the engine consumes about 20% more fuel, say at 120km\/h, than at 100km\/h. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, driving at a low speed increases fuel consumption because the engine drops to a lower gear. Simply put, don&#8217;t go too fast or too slow when driving. Instead, maintain a steady speed <strong>between 50 to 90km\/h<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ensure_optimum_tyre_pressure\"><\/span>Ensure optimum tyre pressure<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Believe it or not, your car&#8217;s tyre pressure influences fuel consumption. Underinflated tyres create more friction and resistance, thereby increasing fuel usage. So, be sure to maintain optimum tyre pressure every now and then.
