roadtax if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The car is not being used at all<\/li><li>It is kept on private property (e.g. in a garage)<\/li><li>It is not driven or parked on any public road<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysian law does not require roadtax for vehicles not used on public roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Important_Things_to_Note\"><\/span>Important Things to Note<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_Roadtax_Has_Expired_for_Over_1_Year\"><\/span>If Roadtax Has Expired for Over 1 Year:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The vehicle must undergo PUSPAKOM inspection before roadtax can be renewed.<\/li><li>Additional documents may be required by JPJ.<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_Caught_on_the_Road_Without_Roadtax\"><\/span>If Caught on the Road Without Roadtax:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you drive a car with expired roadtax on public roads, you may:<br><ul><li>Be fined up to RM3,000<\/li><li>Have your vehicle seized<br><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_About_Insurance\"><\/span>What About Insurance?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>While not required for an unused vehicle, insurance is required to renew your roadtax.<\/li><li>If you don\u2019t renew your insurance, you cannot renew roadtax.<\/li><li>Without insurance, you are not protected if your car is stolen, damaged in a flood, catches fire, or is destroyed \u2014 even if unused.<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"No_SORN_System_in_Malaysia\"><\/span>No SORN System in Malaysia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>In the UK, there is a \u201cSORN\u201d (Statutory Off Road Notification) system to officially declare a vehicle is not being used.<\/li><li>Malaysia does not have such a system.<\/li><li>Therefore, your vehicle will still be marked as expired in the JPJ
