Under the Road Transport Act 1987, <a href=\"https:\/\/bjak.my\/blog\/why-allianz-motor-insurance-is-worth-considering\/\">motor insurance<\/a> is mandatory for all vehicles using Malaysian public roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you can renew your roadtax, you must ensure your insurance is active. If you are unsure whether your insurance is still active, you can refer to your insurance policy or cover note or check your car insurance expiry date online at MyCarInfo for free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_happens_if_you_do_not_renew_your_roadtax\"><\/span>What happens if you do not renew your roadtax?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to renew your roadtax before its expiry date to avoid a penalty. Under Section 15 (1) and Section 90 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987, vehicle owners who fail to pay for their roadtax may face prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_do_you_need_to_renew_your_roadtax\"><\/span>When do you need to renew your roadtax?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to renew your roadtax every year. In order to check the expiry date of your roadtax, simply refer to your roadtax sticker on your windscreen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can renew your roadtax as early as 2 months before its expiry date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_do_you_check_your_roadtax_expiry_date\"><\/span>How do you check your roadtax expiry date?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your roadtax sticker has faded, you can check your roadtax expiry date online through the official website of The Road Transport Department (JPJ). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to your roadtax expiry date, JPJ will also provide the expiry date of your motor insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Roadtax_renewal_deadline_has_been_further_extended_to_December_31_2021_Should_I_renew_it_now\"><\/span>Roadtax renewal deadline has been further extended to December 31, 2021. Should I renew it now?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As announced by Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, the ministry has extended the deadline for the renewal of driving licences and roadtax until December 31, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the deadline extension, vehicle owners whose roadtax has already expired will not be subjected to penalty by the JPJ and The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) until the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>However<\/em>, motor insurance must remain active at all times. Vehicle owners must renew their motor insurance and present their physical or electronic insurance cover note to the authorities for inspection purposes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_happens_if_you_do_not_renew_your_roadtax_after_a_few_years\"><\/span>What happens if you do not renew your roadtax after a few years?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the roadtax renewal moratorium, you will have to pay a fine for driving with a roadtax that has expired for more than a year. Without compromise, you will have to pay a fine of RM300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For vehicle owners with an expired roadtax exceeding 3 years\/36 months, your vehicle must undergo and pass the necessary inspection by <em>Pusat Pemeriksaan Kenderaan Berkomputer<\/em> (PUSPAKOM). The inspection is compulsory to ensure that your vehicle is still in good condition and safe to be used on the road.
