3 Covid-19 vaccine myths you shouldn’t believe

We’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel as Covid-19 hospitalisation and ICU admissions are showing reductions in Labuan, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. Their similarity? At least 40% of their adult population have received their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine. Despite these encouraging results, some are still afraid of getting their jab of Covid-19 vaccine, thanks to some Covid-19 myths widely circulated online.

These are some Covid-19 myths that you shouldn’t believe.

    1. The side effects of COVID-19 vaccines are dangerous or even deadly

“Wait till you get your vaccine jab. It’s gonna sting!”

That the vaccine jab stings may be true to some people, but keep in mind that the side effects are mainly short-term and not dangerous, let alone deadly. Vaccine developers in fact report that the side effects including body ache, headache, or fever are actually signs that the vaccine is doing its job in stimulating your immune system. So don’t be afraid, just get the jab!

PS: If the side effects persist, urgently see a licensed medical doctor, and do update your MySejahtera.

    2. Covid-19 vaccines affect women’s fertility

This must be straightened out. Covid-19 vaccines DO NOT affect fertility.

To those planning to conceive, rejoice! You can safely embark on pregnancy the second you complete your vaccination, says Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) in its guidelines.

    3. Covid-19 vaccines alter people’s DNA

Strangely, some people buy that Covid-19 vaccine has the power to change people’s DNA. Please don’t insult your intelligence!

The fact is there’s not even remote evidence to suggest that Covid-19 vaccine changes anyone’s DNA. Covid-19 vaccines contain normal vaccine ingredients including fats, salt and sugar. Be rest assured that they certainly do not contain any microchips, so don’t lose sleep thinking whether Covid-19 vaccine can turn you into a Wolverine!

Come on Malaysia, don’t trust any of the Covid-19 vaccine myths. Get information from credible and official sources. And let’s get the jab and race towards achieving herd immunity! Malaysia Boleh!
