What Are Bald Tyres?
Bald tyres are tyres with worn-out tread, usually below 1.6mm — the minimum legal tread depth allowed in Malaysia.
Risks of Bald Tyres:
- Reduced grip, especially on wet roads
- High chance of aquaplaning (sliding on water)
- Longer braking distance
- Increased risk of tyre blowout under heat or pressure
Incorrect Tyre Pressure:
- Underinflated Tyres can cause:
- Higher fuel consumption
- Sidewall damage
- Unstable handling
- Overinflated Tyres can cause:
- Poor grip at the tyre center
- Higher risk of bursting
- Loss of control when braking or turning
Reality Check & Data:
- According to MIROS and JPJ, tyre issues are among the top causes of highway accidents.
- Many drivers only check tyre pressure when they “feel something’s wrong” – often too late.

Prevention Tips:
- Check tyre pressure at least every 2 weeks
- Replace tyres if tread is below 1.6mm or more than 5 years old
- Use a tyre pressure gauge or check at petrol stations
- Do alignment and balancing regularly or if your car feels unstable
