The end of 2021 saw a few states in Malaysia being ravaged by horrendous floods. The disaster has continues in a few states this new year, claiming a few lives.
The terrible floods have impacted the lives and livelihood of the victims as the disaster has damaged their properties, including their houses and vehicles.
Keluarga Malaysia Automotive Discount Voucher
The colossal damage to properties resulting from the floods has devastated many victims. Further, the repair cost of their vehicles would be a huge burden to many of them.
Realising the hardship, the government introduced the Keluarga Malaysia Automotive Discount Voucher in order to ease the burden of the victims.
Eligible Malaysian vehicle owners can redeem the voucher worth up to RM1,000 at participating service centres or authorised distributors of the automotive companies.
No application needed
Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abd Aziz said flood victims do not have to make an application to get the vouchers.
Further, the Finance Minister said that recipients would enjoy the vouchers directly through the deduction from the total cost of the repair or replacement of the vehicle at any registered service centre or authorised distributor.
“Vehicle owners can contact the respective automotive company to find out the nearest service centre,” said the Finance Minister.
The Finance Minister also added that the deadline to claim the Keluarga Malaysia Automotive Discount Voucher is March 31, 2022.

Check invoices before sending your car for repairs
Additionally, the co-founder of a vehicle workshop Scrut Auto, Nik Muhammad Izwan Nik Mohd Kamel, reminded flood victims to check invoices issued by workshops before sending their flood-damaged vehicles for repairs.
He advised affected car owners to check the invoices before sending their car to a workshop to avoid getting ripped off for car repairs.
“Do not simply send your car to a workshop because most workshops are now full. After your car inspection is done, do request a quote. If you are not happy with the quote or find it expensive, bring back your car,” said Nik Muhammad Izwan, according to a report.
Some motor workshop operators may take advantage of the flood situation by charging excessively for flood-damaged vehicles.
Therefore, please survey the repair costs before sending your car for repairs to avoid being scammed by unscrupulous parties.
Get special perils cover
Looking at the devastating tragedy, we hope more car owners will realise the importance of getting sufficient insurance coverage.
By getting the special perils cover, you can make an insurance claim for the damage to your vehicle due to natural disasters such as floods. This coverage will ease your burden if a natural disaster damages your vehicle.
On the other hand, without the special perils cover, you will have to bear the repair cost out of your pocket, even if it is a new vehicle.
Therefore, when renewing your insurance, please consider adding the special perils cover to your comprehensive policy so you will not be financially burdened in any untoward event.
