This is important information for those planning to return to their hometown or travel this coming Chinese New Year.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will enforce Op Selamat 17 in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year, utilising new digital enforcement tools, ‘In-Car Radar’ and ‘iCOPS’.

‘In-Car Radar’ speed limit detection tool

PDRM will, for the first time, utilise a digital enforcement tool, ‘In-Car Radar’, as a speed limit detection device. PDRM will use the device on the nation’s highways and expressways in Op Selamat 17.

As reported by New Straits Times (NST), Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said the ‘In-Car Radar’ technology will add to the normal enforcement operations. ‘In-Car Radar’ will detect vehicles that exceed the set speed limit.

‘Intelligent Compound Online Payment System’ (iCOPS)

Besides ‘In-Car Radar’, PDRM will also, for the first time, use ‘Intelligent Compound Online Payment System’ (iCOPS) in Op Selamat 17.

iCOPS’ is a technological device that detects traffic offenders with outstanding summonses and traffic arrest warrants.

“This will include vehicles involved in criminal cases such as stolen vehicles, clones and so on,” said Razarudin as reported by the NST.

Explained Razarudin, both tools (‘In-Car Radar’ and ‘iCOPS’) are handy in systematically storing and building vehicle profiles for PDRM’s analysis records now and in the future.

Razarudin added that PDRM’s Highway Patrol team would implement the ‘In-Car Radar’ and ‘iCOPS’ in Op Selamat 17. The team would patrol along national highways, including the PLUS expressway.
