What Documents Are Required to Renew Roadtax

Introduction

Many people think renewing roadtax requires a lot of documents required to renew roadtax, but the process is actually much simpler. Only two main documents are required — proof of active insurance and owner identification. However, there are also some supporting documents that can be helpful if you’re doing the renewal at a counter or using a delivery service.

1. Proof of Active Insurance (eCoverNote / Insurance Policy)

This is the most important document. Without active insurance, the JPJ system will not allow the roadtax renewal.
After you purchase insurance through BJAK, the eCoverNote will be sent directly to your WhatsApp and e-mail. This document can be used immediately for verification with JPJ or other platforms like MyEG and Pos Malaysia.

Tip: The eCoverNote is a temporary proof before the full policy is issued — both are valid for roadtax renewal.

2. Owner Identification / Driving License

Used for identity verification. If you renew online, your IC information is usually verified automatically. However, if a representative handles the renewal, provide a copy of the owner’s IC along with a letter of authorization.
Some platforms also accept a driving license as an additional verification document.

3. (Optional) Copy of Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC / Geran)

The VOC or a copy of the geran is not mandatory, but useful if there are errors in the vehicle details such as engine number, model, or ownership status. If the original geran is lost, you can request a replacement from JPJ before renewing.

4. (Optional) Proof of Payment / Receipt

For online transactions, keep the receipt or proof of payment sent via e-mail or WhatsApp. This is helpful if there are delays in system synchronization with JPJ or in the delivery of the physical roadtax.
BJAK usually sends the payment proof automatically once the policy is issued.

Conclusion

It’s actually simple — the two main documents are enough to renew roadtax: active insurance and owner identification. But for smoother processing, it’s helpful to also have a copy of the VOC and payment receipt. Use BJAK for the fastest process: the eCoverNote and payment proof are sent directly to WhatsApp with no printing required.
