What Happens To Claim When NCD Is Affected

Introduction

NCD (No Claim Discount) is a special discount given to drivers who haven’t made any claims during their policy period. But many are still confused — does every claim affect your NCD? The short answer: not always. Let’s break down how NCD actually works, so you don’t lose your discount unnecessarily.

1. When Your NCD Will Be Affected

Your NCD will reset to 0% if you file a claim under your own policy (known as an Own Damage claim). For example:

  • The accident was caused by you.
  • You repaired your car using your own insurance (not claiming from the other party).

Result: Once this happens, you’ll lose your entire NCD, and your premium will increase during your next renewal.

2. When Your NCD Will Not Be Affected

There are certain situations where your NCD remains intact even after filing a claim:

  • Third Party Claim – when the accident wasn’t your fault.
  • Windscreen Claim – under a special add-on coverage.
  • Special Perils Claim – for natural disasters, if you have that add-on.

In these cases, your NCD remains safe because it’s either not your fault or it’s covered under special protection.

3. How to Check Your NCD Status

If you’re unsure whether your NCD was affected, you can check it online:

  • Visit BJAK.my and enter your vehicle plate number.
  • The system will instantly show your current NCD rate (e.g., 30%, 45%, or 55%).
  • You can also compare premium prices with or without your NCD applied.

Alternatively, you can check via PIAM’s official website (Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia), but BJAK is faster since it displays your NCD rate right during the insurance check.

4. How to Maintain Your NCD

  • Avoid small claims (like scratches or minor bumper damage) — sometimes it’s cheaper to repair privately than lose your NCD.
  • Always renew your policy on time to avoid any “gap in cover.”
  • Use platforms like BJAK, which automatically check your NCD and help you get the lowest premium available.

Conclusion

When your NCD is affected, your next premium will rise — but if you manage your claims wisely, your discount can remain up to 55%. Understand when NCD is affected and when it’s not, and use BJAK to monitor your rate during every renewal so you never lose your savings without realising it.
