    All rapid KL public transport services in the Klang Valley will be free of charge for a month starting today.

    Prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the free rides would include MRT, LRT, BRT, Monorail, and the RapidKL bus.

    The one-month free rides are in conjunction with the official opening of Phase 1 of the MRT Putrajaya Line today.

    The first phase of the MRT Putrajaya Line is 17.5 km is 17.5 km long. It has 12 stations in total, with nine new stations joining three existing stations from the MRT Kajang Line.

    In essence, the first Putrajaya line will cover Kwasa Damansara, Kampung Selamat, Sungai Buloh, Damansara Damai, Sri Damansara Barat, Sri Damansara Sentral, Sri Damansara Timur, Metro Prima, Kepong Baru, Jinjang, Sri Delima, and Kampung Batu.

    The new line will be served by 20 driverless train sets. Each with four cars can cater to a total capacity of 1,200 passengers.

    MRT Putrajaya Line will serve across 2 millions residents

    Ismail said the MRT Putrajaya Line can cater to about two million residents from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya. He hoped Malaysians can benefit from these public transportation services.

    Meanwhile, the second phase of the Putrajaya Line will pass through “strategic areas” in the Kuala Lumpur city center. For example, Titiwangsa, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Ampang Park, and the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), he said.

    Ismail explained that MRT Corp is planning to add four more stations to improve access to public transportation.

    “We expect to see more than 104,000 users a day during the full opening of the MRT Putrajaya Line. We hope that this would reduce the traffic congestion affecting KL.”
