As of 24 September 2021, Malaysia through Medical Device Authority (MDA) has conditionally approved the use of 20 Covid-19 antigen rapid self-test kits. In this post, we’re sharing the product names in case you want to grab one!
Here are a few important things to note about Covid-19 antigen rapid self-test kits.
- Covid-19 antigen rapid self-test kits don’t replace the diagnostic function of real-time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). However, they’re a convenient and quick measure to detect Covid-19 infection.
- All self-test kits are for screening purposes only. Therefore, you still need to get yourself tested through RT-PCR for result confirmation.
- Depending on the self-test kits, you would need a sample of your saliva, nasal swab or a combination of saliva and nasal swab to perform the test.
- You must update in your MySejahtera application your self-test result regardless of the result i.e. positive, negative, or invalid. If your result is invalid, you must repeat the test.
- The ceiling or maximum price of each self-test kit is RM19.90 for retail and RM16.00 for wholesale effective 5 September 2021.
- You can purchase the self-test kits from registered pharmacists or private healthcare facilities.
