Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTL) With Thailand and Cambodia to Begin on March 15

Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTL) With Thailand and Cambodia

Good news for you who wish to travel to Thailand or Cambodia! Starting March 15, 2022, you can travel to either country without having to quarantine upon arrival.

The Ministry of Transport announced on March 5 that the Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTL) with Thailand and Cambodia would start operating on March 15. The move is part of joint efforts to reopen international borders.

Through this initiative, fully vaccinated travellers do not have to undergo quarantine upon arrival in any of the countries.

“These routes are expected to aid our mutual economic recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in reviving the ailing tourism industry,” said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong in a statement.

Designated airlines can operate up to six (6) flights daily on the Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok route, and up to four (4) flights daily on the Kuala Lumpur-Phuket route

The countries may add new routes from time to time, subject to mutual agreement.

Meanwhile, as for the VTL route by air between Malaysia and Cambodia, designated airlines from both countries can operate up to two (2) flights daily on the Kuala Lumpur-Phnom Penh route

The countries may add new routes from time to time depending on market demand.

Standard operating procedures and related health protocols

The Malaysia-Thailand and Malaysia-Cambodia VTL routes will be operated by all designated airlines under the VTL initiative. The respective agencies will issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) and related health protocols in the near future. Travellers have to strictly adhere to health protocols to enjoy this VTL facility.

In the meantime, the government will continue discussions with all neighbouring ASEAN countries on the reopening of additional safe routes in the future according to the current situation.

    Practise SOPs when travelling

While holidaying, remember to always practise the SOPs, especially given the escalating cases of COVID-19 infection.

Take advantage of the opportunities and relaxation provided but do not break the rules in place. If you experience any symptoms, do a self-test. Quarantine yourself if infected with COVID-19.
