The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that those with a long-expired driving licence may have it revoked if a renewal is not carried out by June 30.
JPJ listed four driving license classes which may face revocation if the license has expired for 1 to 3 years.
The driving license classes involved are:
- Learner’s driving license (LDL) expired for two years
- Probationary driving license (PDL) for over a year
- Competent driving license (CDL) for over three years
- Public service vehicle (PSV) and goods driving license (GDL) for over three years
At present, the holders of those expired driving licences are liable for fines for not possessing a driving license. However, JPJ will issue a summons for those driving without a licence after June 30.
In addition, those affected by the revocation will need to undergo the full process of obtaining a driving license again.
Last year, the transport ministry announced a moratorium allowing the delay of expired driving licence renewal until September 30 during the Covid-19 outbreak. Later, it was extended to December 31.
However, hundreds of thousands of driving license holders were yet to renew their licenses past the December 31 deadline.
