To your knowledge, all panel workshops must be approved by the General Insurance Association of Malaysia, commonly known as Persatuan Insuran Am Malaysia (PIAM). PIAM approves panel workshops through its scheme called PIAM Approved Repairers Scheme (PARS).

Why do you have to send your car to a panel workshop?

You can only file an insurance claim prior to sending your car repaired at a panel workshop. A panel workshop often settles claim procedures and often submits claims through an online system called Merimen.

Every panel workshop must be first approved by PIAM through PIAM Approved Repairers Scheme (PARS). The main objective of PARS is “to enhance the standard of service, quality, and professionalism of workshops involved in the repair of accident vehicles.”
To your knowledge, not every workshop is qualified to be a panel workshop. Participating workshops must fulfill the criteria set by PIAM and pass PIAM’s assessment annually to become and remain a panel workshop.

To enjoy a repair warranty for 6 months
You can enjoy the benefit of a repair warranty of 6 months against defects on new parts or workmanship carried by the panel workshop. So if your car acts up after the repair, you may return to get them to fix it.
Since it’s a warranty, you do not have to pay anything for any repair work or part replacement during the warranty period. It is your right that is protected by PIAM and certainly, your insurance.
