What is a panel workshop?
A panel workshop is a workshop authorized by your insurance to repair your car that is insured by the insurance. For instance, you have bought comprehensive insurance from Allianz. Say that your car meets with an accident caused by you or your driver, you must send your car to a panel workshop of Allianz.
For your information, all panel workshops must be approved by the General Insurance Association of Malaysia, commonly known as Persatuan Insuran Am Malaysia (PIAM). PIAM approves panel workshops through its scheme called PIAM Approved Repairers Scheme (PARS). As of October 2021, PIAM has approved 675 PARS repairers that are operating nationwide. Why do you have to send your car to a panel workshop?

To make an insurance claim
If your car runs into an accident because of your own mistake or negligence, you must send your car to a panel workshop to make an insurance claim, or more precisely an Own Damage (OD) claim. Your comprehensive insurance will then cover the repair cost or compensate you, subject to your insurance policy.

For your information, not every workshop is qualified to be a panel workshop. In order to become and remain a panel workshop, participating workshops must fulfil the criteria set by PIAM and pass PIAM’s assessment annually.
So if your car is repaired at a panel workshop, you will feel more confident and have peace of mind knowing the workshop is PIAM-approved. But if you are not happy with the workmanship, fret not, as you have a warranty as our next point shall clarify.
To enjoy a repair warranty for 6 months
This is one of the most important reasons why you should send your car to a panel workshop. You can enjoy the benefit of a repair warranty of 6 months against defects on new parts or workmanship carried by the panel workshop.
So if your car acts up after the repair, return to the panel workshop and get them to fix it. Since it’s a warranty, you do not have to pay anything for any repair work or part replacement during the warranty period. It is your right that is protected by PIAM and certainly, your insurance.
