KL-Karak Highway To Get Additional Lanes This Year

    Additional lanes for KL-Karak Highway

Are you a frequent traveller who uses notorious roads in Malaysia like the KL-Karak Highway? This infamous highway is known for two things. One is frequent accidents that have become a mainstay, and the other is traffic jams that worsen yearly.

Thankfully, the government plans to address the second problem by adding extra lanes to widen existing roads. More details on the recently approved solution are below.

KL-Karak Expressway (KLK) to be widened

According to a report by New Straits Times, the works ministry approved the proposal to widen the KLK to accommodate the increasing traffic volume on the road.

The physical works will commence in the third quarter of 2023 and are expected to be completed in 2026. Precisely, the 45.3km stretch between the Gombak toll plaza and the Mempaga intersection (Central Spine Road) in Bentong will undergo the widening process as follows:

    Section 1

The stretch between Gombak Toll Plaza and Bukit Tinggi:

One additional lane on both sides. The roads will be widened from three lanes to four lanes.

    Section 2

Two lanes between Bukit Tinggi and Bentong Toll Plaza:

The roads will be expanded to three lanes.

    New tunnel at Genting Sempah

The RM2.1 billion project also involves building a new tunnel at Genting Sempah. This is to tackle the growing number of vehicles on the road, especially during festive seasons.

A new two-lane tunnel will be constructed at Genting Sempah, next to the eastbound tunnel from Pahang. The upgrading works also involve the installation of new streetlights along the KLK Expressway.

It is expected that after the completion of the widening project, the highway will be more comfortable to use. Road users can expect faster and more efficient traffic flow throughout the year.

    Additional lanes for KL-Karak Highway

With the growing traffic volume, it’s certainly a relief to hear that authorities will tackle this issue in due time.

Hopefully, with additional lanes, the traffic congestion on the KL-Karak Expressway can be eased soon. Until then, motorists still have to deal with bad traffic that may be around for quite some time.
