The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has warned motorists against the trend of recording videos while driving on the road.
According to a statement issued on their Facebook page, many citizens developed the habit of recording video or going on live videos without using a hands-free device.
That said, PDRM voiced concern about potential accidents on the road caused by driver’s negligence.
“If the individual who is recording the surroundings was also the driver, he/she will be considered breaching the Section 17A in the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
“This is because the driver is not completely aware of the surroundings and could potentially lose control of the vehicle. Thus making him or her more prone to getting in an accident.”
You are liable for fines up to RM1,000 or receive a prison sentence of no more than three months if found guilty. The case will further be taken place to court.
PDRM also advised motorists to practice safe driving while on the road.
“Make sure to use a hands-free device like an earphone if you should take a phone call. Please do not use the phone to record or go on live videos when driving as it will distract the driver.”
Be safe, avoid recording video while driving
As a driver, please ensure to keep your focus on the road. Refrain yourself from recording videos of your surroundings when driving. It is not worth the risk.
Your negligence will not only put your life in danger but other road users as well.
It is best to put your smartphone in silent mode to avoid distraction while driving. Please stop at any safe area like the rest area on highways if you need to use your phone.
