Malaysians returning to their hometown this Raya may enjoy a cheaper or toll-free trip on 30 local highways nationwide on April 30 and May 1.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the toll waivers and discounts are estimated to save motorists RM77.1 million. He added that the highway operators will bear the costs.
“This is the first time after two years of the movement control order (MCO). Malaysians may return to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“We expect two million vehicles to use the highway daily this festive period and prolonged travelling time. We advise highway customers to abide by the TTA issued.
“Please use the TTA to plan your journeys,” Sabri said.
The free toll provision involves the North-South Expressway under PLUS Malaysia and the East Coast Expressway (LPT) under Anih Berhad and other highways connecting them.
Toll-free travel on the North-South Highway and LPT are on May 7 and 8. Discounts up to 50% are also available on other highways on the same date and time for all vehicle classes.
