How To Change Ownership of Car Grant of a Deceased

    Sort out the distribution of assets

    The vehicle of a deceased owner will be treated as an inheritance. Therefore, it is better to sort out the wealth distribution first before changing the ownership of a car grant of a deceased.

    It will be convenient if the deceased has already sorted out before the death. But if the inheritance is yet to be distributed, you may apply to Small Estates (Distribution) as the heir to the deceased.

    Receive power of attorney

    Obtain either a Probate Grant Letter, Declaration / Instruction Letter by Amanah Raya Berhad, Court Order Letter, or Estate Administrator’s Letter to start the process of changing the name/ownership of a deceased.

    The heirs will receive the documents during the procedure of Urusan Harta Pusaka Kecil of a deceased.

    PUSPAKOM test

    You need to Selesai urusan Permohonan Pembahagian Harta Pusaka Kecil, maka tiba giliran untuk berurusan dengan PUSPAKOM.

    Please get the original grant of the vehicle first.

    Following that, set an appointment with PUSPAKOM to undergo a Transfer of Ownership Inspection or B5 Inspection. Make sure to present the original grant during the examination.

    You will receive a letter of PUSPAKOM examination results after completing the examination.

    You can proceed to transfer the ownership upon approval. If you fail the examination, you need to send the vehicle for repair and re-undergo the examination.

    Renew insurance on behalf of the new owner

    Renew the insurance in the name of the new owner before going to JPJ.

    Inform the insurance agent about the transfer of ownership.

    Provide documents when going to JPJ office

    The followings are several forms along with administrative/ ownership or supporting confirmation documents:

    Sebelum hadir terus ke JPJ, pemilik baru perlu melengkapkan beberapa borang berserta dokumen pengesahahan pentadbir/ pemilikan atau sokongan iaitu:

    • A copy of the IC of the new owner
    • Two copies of the Checklist form TM-3
    • Two copies of the completed JPJK3A form and signed by the new owner
    • Original grant
    • PUSPAKOM approval letter – Transfer of Ownership Examination (B5)
    • Either one the documents confirming ownership; Court Order Letter, Probate Grant Letter, Declaration/ Instruction Letter by Amanah Raya Berhad, or Estate Administrator letter

    Present to JPJ

    New owners can come directly to the nearest JPJ branch to transfer car ownership. Don’t forget to provide the above forms and documents.

    Renew roadtax

    Last but not least, you may proceed with the roadtax renewal.
