‘Operasi Khas Motosikal’: Riding Motorcycle Without License Records Highest Summonses

'Operasi Khas Motosikal': Riding Motorcycle Without License Records Highest Summonses!

It is already 2022, yet there are still motorists who ride on the road without a license. Riding without a license is clearly a traffic offence that risks lives.

During ‘Operasi Khas Motosikal’ in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan on the night of February 7, the Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued a total of 339 summonses. Its director, Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said riding without a license recorded the highest number of summonses at 93. Riding with expired roadtax came second at 90 summonses.

As reported by Harian Metro, Hanif said they also issued 5 summonses for driving with an expired license and 65 summonses for not having vehicle insurance.

Apart from JPJ, the ‘Operasi Khas Motosikal’ involved the Department of Environment (JAS), National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

“Riding without a license, roadtax and vehicle insurance still recorded the highest number of summonses among road users despite many advocacy sessions,” Hanif told the press.

Hanif added that most of the users summonsed for the offences were young people riding motorcycles. Therefore, he reminded parents to be more responsible towards their children.

Are you riding without a license? You can face a compound and have your vehicle confiscated

As reported by Astro Awani on February 3, Hanif said individuals who ride without a license can face a maximum compound of RM300 and have their vehicles confiscated under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, in another ‘Operasi Khas Motosikal’ in Port Dickson on January 31, Hanif told Harian Metro they would continuously carry out ‘Operasi Khas Motosikal’ to create a ‘perception of being caught’ among road users.

Even if you can escape, please do not drive or ride without a license. If you already have a license, ensure it is still valid. Driving or riding with an expired license is also an offence.

For parents, please forbid your child from driving or riding if they do not have a license. If your child is underage and guilty of riding a motorcycle or driving a car, the parent or vehicle owner can be summonsed.
