Roadtax Size for Self-Printing: What You Need to Know

With digital roadtax (e-LKM), many Malaysian drivers no longer need to display a physical roadtax sticker on their car windscreen.

For eligible private vehicles, the e-LKM can be accessed through the MyJPJ app or JPJ’s online portal. However, JPJ still allows users to print a physical copy of the LKM if they need one.

So, if you’re wondering about the roadtax size for self-printing, here’s what you need to know.

What is digital roadtax (e-LKM)?

The e-LKM is the digital version of the Malaysian Motor Vehicle Licence, commonly known as roadtax.

For eligible private vehicles owned by Malaysian citizens, the LKM can be viewed digitally through the MyJPJ app or JPJ’s online portal. You no longer need to stick a physical roadtax disk on the windscreen.

The digital LKM also shows important information such as the vehicle details and LKM validity period.

Do I still need to print my roadtax?

Not necessarily.

If your vehicle is eligible for digital LKM, you can use the e-LKM through MyJPJ instead of displaying a physical roadtax sticker.

JPJ currently gives users the flexibility to either:

  • Use the digital e-LKM through MyJPJ
  • Print and display a physical LKM where required or preferred

However, the digital LKM rollout does not apply to every vehicle category.

For example, company-owned private vehicles, commercial vehicles and certain vehicles owned by non-Malaysian citizens continue to follow the applicable physical LKM requirements until further notice.

What is the standard roadtax size in Malaysia?

The old physical roadtax disk had a standard format and size.

However, if you are using e-LKM, the important thing is no longer the physical sticker size. The digital LKM is the official electronic display through the MyJPJ system.

If you choose to keep a printed copy, make sure the information is clear and readable.

Do not resize or alter the information in a way that makes the LKM details difficult to verify.

Can I print my e-LKM myself?

JPJ states that vehicle owners can make their own printout of the e-LKM to share with another person using the vehicle. The MyJPJ FAQ also provides a Kongsi LKM function for sharing the digital LKM with another driver.

However, JPJ’s current FAQ states that the function to download the digital LKM as a document is still being developed.

This means you should not assume that every e-LKM can currently be downloaded as a ready-made PDF for printing.

What if someone else drives my car?

You don’t necessarily need to hand over a physical roadtax sticker.

The vehicle owner can use the Kongsi LKM function in MyJPJ to share the digital LKM with another person who uses the vehicle.

This can be useful if, for example, a family member regularly drives a car registered under your name.

What if there is no internet connection?

JPJ states that users can keep a screenshot of the digital LKM and show it when requested by enforcement officers in areas without internet coverage.

The MyJPJ FAQ also states that the digital LKM can still be accessed without internet if the user remains logged in and has previously accessed the information while connected to the internet.

For convenience, make sure your LKM information is accessible before travelling to an area with poor coverage.

Who still needs physical roadtax?

Digital LKM currently covers eligible private vehicles registered to Malaysian citizens.

Some categories still follow physical LKM requirements, including:

  • Commercial vehicles
  • Company-owned private vehicles
  • Certain vehicles owned by non-Malaysian citizens

JPJ will announce further phases of digitalisation for other vehicle categories when applicable.

If you are unsure whether your vehicle is eligible, check your LKM status through the official JPJ channels.

How to check your digital roadtax

You can check your e-LKM through the MyJPJ app.

Generally:

  1. Log in to MyJPJ.
  2. Go to your profile.
  3. Select Lesen Kenderaan Motor.
  4. Select your vehicle.
  5. Check the LKM details and expiry date.

JPJ also provides a Kongsi LKM function if another person needs access to the vehicle’s digital LKM.

Renew your roadtax online

If your roadtax is approaching its expiry date, you can renew it before it expires.

You can check the available roadtax renewal options on BJAK.

Before renewing, make sure your motor insurance is valid for the LKM period you want to renew.

What happens after renewing roadtax?

After your LKM is renewed, you can check the updated information through the relevant JPJ digital service.

If your MyJPJ information does not immediately show the latest details, JPJ provides options to refresh or regenerate the digital display. If the issue continues, contact JPJ for assistance.

Remember that BJAK is a renewal platform, while JPJ remains the authority for your official LKM record.
