Shariah and takaful

Understand BJAK's Shariah position, how takaful differs from conventional insurance, and what Muslim customers should check before buying.

Is BJAK Shariah-compliant?

Yes. BJAK is an Approved Islamic Financial Adviser under Bank Negara Malaysia, though not a takaful operator: a product's Shariah status rests with its issuer.

Takaful vs conventional insurance on BJAK: what Muslim customers should know

Both are available on BJAK, and both are regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia. The difference is in how the money is structured, not in whether you are protected.

Can Muslim customers use BJAK to buy car insurance?

Yes. Muslim customers can compare and buy motor takaful on BJAK from licensed operators. Buying here does not change your certificate or its Shariah status.

What is the difference between takaful and conventional insurance?

Both protect you against financial loss; they differ in how that protection is structured. Conventional insurance transfers your risk to an insurer for a premium. Takaful pools contributions from participants who agree to help one another.

Can I choose only takaful options on BJAK?

Yes - takaful quotes appear alongside conventional ones, and you can buy takaful and nothing else. What you cannot do is make conventional quotes disappear from the comparison, because BJAK is built to show the whole panel rather than a pre-filtered slice of it. In practice that costs you nothing: the takaful quotes are clearly tagged, and you simply choose one.

How does BJAK support Shariah-conscious customers?

By making the product type visible before you pay, and by giving you the information to check it yourself. BJAK does not certify Shariah compliance. What it provides is choice, clear identification of which quotes are takaful, and access to the product documents that let you assess a plan against your own requirements.

Are takaful products on BJAK Shariah-compliant?

Yes. The takaful products on BJAK are issued by licensed takaful operators, and their Shariah compliance is governed by those operators. Every licensed takaful operator in Malaysia maintains a Shariah Committee that oversees its products, under Bank Negara Malaysia's framework and the ultimate authority of BNM's Shariah Advisory Council.
