How to Protect Car Leather Seats?

Car leather seats are chic and elegant. They enhance the appearance of your car’s interior.

Leather upholstery is hardwearing and easy to clean, however, the charm can fade with age. They need regular maintenance and cleaning to keep them looking their best.

It is important to clean your leather car seats and upholstery once in a while (every three months at least).

Those who have leather seats in their car may refer to this article. Let us share simple steps you can take to extend the life of your leather car seats.

Option 1: Cleaning your car seat

    Step 1: Vacuum

Vacuum your leather seats regularly. It can help remove microscopic allergens hidden in small crevices. Examples are dust, dirt, crumbs, and debris.

You can vacuum once a month (or more often) if your seats are dirty.

    Step 2: Spray leather cleaner

Use a specialised leather spray to clean the leather safely. Spray once every two months (or more often) if your seats need a deeper clean.

Step 3: Wipe down your seats with a dry cloth

Wipe the leather seat off with a clean, dry cloth or rag to get rid of any residual dirt or dust left on the seats.

*Note: Your seats may still be damp after being wiped with a cloth. If they are, let them air dry in a well-ventilated space.

    Step 4: Condition the leather

Apply conditioner to your seats every 3-4 months (or whenever the leather seats become dry).

*Note: Most conditioners need 4 to 6 hours to dry completely.

    Option 2: Purchase seat covers

Step 1: Choose cover materials that are for easy cleanup

Car seat covers come in a few different materials, but neoprene and nylon are easy to clean and good for low-maintenance washing.

Although they absorb spills and messes, you can take them off and wash them easily.

Step 2: Purchase the correct size

Buy seat covers that are made for your car type and size. Make sure that it is neither too big nor too small.

    Option 3: Block sunlight

Direct sunlight is one of the biggest threats to leather car seats. The harmful UV rays can cause premature fading and may create cracks throughout the leather.

It is best to prevent exposing your leather seat to direct sunlight.

As such, please use protective sunshades on your windshield to prevent sunlight. Other than that, take advantage of covered parking.

Take care of your leather seats

Your car equals a lifetime investment. By cleaning your car seats regularly and protecting them from spills and accidents, you can keep your leather car seats looking as new as they did the day you got them.
