Can someone else pay for my insurance?

Direct answer

In most cases, another person may pay using their card, bank account or e-wallet, subject to the payment provider's checks. The policy is still issued to the registered vehicle owner.

What information must match

The person making payment does not always need to be the vehicle owner. However, the vehicle and policy information must still match the registered owner and the insurer's requirements.

The payment provider may also check the payer's card, bank account, identity or transaction activity as part of its fraud-prevention process.

What the payer should review

Before confirming payment, check that:

  • The vehicle registration number is correct
  • The policyholder's name and identification details are correct
  • The selected insurer, coverage and start date are correct
  • The total amount and payment method are correct

When payment may be declined

A payment can be declined by the bank or payment provider because of card limits, insufficient balance, authentication failure, unusual activity or other provider checks. BJAK cannot override these checks.

Refunds to another person's payment method

When a refund applies, it is normally returned through the original payment route where supported. This means the funds may be credited back to the original payer’s card, bank account, or payment account rather than to another recipient.

Important clarification

Using another person's payment method does not change policy ownership, coverage rights or the insurer's eligibility requirements. The registered vehicle owner remains the policyholder unless the insurer approves otherwise.
