Can I make a claim if I bought my insurance through BJAK?
Yes. Buying through BJAK does not affect your right to claim. Your claim is made against the insurer or Takaful operator that issued your policy, and it is assessed under that policy's terms - exactly as it would be if you had bought direct. BJAK is the distribution channel, not the risk carrier.
Key facts at a glance
| Can you claim | Who assesses it | Who pays it | Where BJAK helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yes - in full, on the same terms | The insurer or Takaful operator named on your policy | The insurer or Takaful operator | Finding your insurer's details, preparing documents, escalating a stalled case |
Does buying through BJAK affect claim eligibility?
No. Claim eligibility is determined entirely by the policy, not the purchase channel.
What actually decides whether you can claim:
- The coverage type you bought - comprehensive, third party fire and theft, or third party only
- Whether the event is covered under the policy terms
- The exclusions listed in your Product Disclosure Sheet
- Whether the policy was active on the date of the incident
- Whether your policy details were accurate - name, IC/NRIC, vehicle registration
- Whether you met the notification and documentation requirements
None of these depend on where you bought the policy. A policy issued by a licensed insurer or Takaful operator through BJAK is the same contract, with the same standing, as one issued through any other channel.
Who handles the actual claim?
The insurer or Takaful operator handles it. They are the party that accepted the risk, and they carry the claim from notification to payment.
| Step | Handled by |
|---|---|
| Notifying the claim | You, to the insurer or Takaful operator |
| Registering and opening the claim file | Insurer / Takaful operator |
| Appointing an adjuster or approved repairer | Insurer / Takaful operator |
| Assessing the damage and the liability | Insurer / Takaful operator |
| Approving or rejecting the claim | Insurer / Takaful operator |
| Paying an approved claim | Insurer / Takaful operator |
| Helping you find and reach the right team | BJAK |
| Escalating a case that has stalled | BJAK |
BJAK does not assess claims, cannot approve or reject them, and does not pay them. Those decisions and payments belong to the provider under the policy terms.
Where can you find your insurer's information?
Your provider is named on the documents issued for your purchase.
- Your policy schedule or Takaful Certificate - the issuing entity is named on it, with your policy or certificate number
- Your BJAK account - the provider and documents are attached to your order
- Your e-cover note - names the provider and the cover period
You will need your policy or certificate number and the provider's name to notify a claim. Note the claims contact number from your policy document, or ask BJAK support to point you to it.
Contact the provider directly and as soon as possible after an incident. Most policies require prompt notification, and a delay can complicate a claim. See Steps for claiming car insurance in Malaysia.
What documents should you keep?
Keep these from the moment you buy, so they are ready if you ever need them:
- Policy schedule or Takaful Certificate, with the policy or certificate number
- e-Cover note
- Product Disclosure Sheet
- Payment confirmation and order reference
- Vehicle registration document
- Your driving licence
And after an incident, gather:
- Police report (accident claims without a police report)
- Photographs of the damage and the scene
- Details of any other party involved - name, contact, vehicle registration, and their insurer
- Repair estimates or invoices, where applicable
- Any correspondence with the provider or adjuster
What support can BJAK provide?
BJAK supports you around the claim, without taking over the claim itself.
- Finding your provider and claims contact - from the documents on your order
- Re-sending your policy documents if you cannot locate them
- Explaining what your documents show - your coverage type, sum insured, excess and add-ons
- Helping you prepare the information the provider will ask for
- Following up and escalating where a claim has stalled with the provider (How do I make a complaint?)
Frequently asked questions
Do I claim from BJAK or from my insurer?
From your insurer or Takaful operator - they are named on your policy. BJAK can help you reach them and prepare your documents.
Will my insurer treat my claim differently because I bought through a platform?
No. The claim is assessed against the policy terms. The purchase channel is not a factor in the assessment.
Does BJAK take a cut of my claim payout?
No. An approved claim is paid by the insurer or Takaful operator under the policy terms.
What if my policy details were wrong at the time of the incident?
Tell the provider, and contact BJAK. Inaccurate details can complicate a claim, which is why it is worth checking your policy as soon as it is issued and correcting anything immediately.
Is claiming on a Takaful certificate different?
The process is broadly the same: you notify the Takaful operator, they assess under the certificate terms, and an approved claim is paid from the risk fund.
Can BJAK help if my claim is rejected?
See how to dispute a rejected claim. BJAK can help you understand the stated reason and escalate the case to the provider for review. The final decision remains the provider's.
